I learn from the article "two kinds of composition" that the two function of writing is to support people’s lives and communicate ideas to others. We write because it supports our lives and keep current moment alive. also it can help us remember something or to help us figure things out. Therefore, students write reflections or explanations to figure things out, make notes from readings, lectures and observations to remember.
However, writing as composition is the other kind of writing that begins with an idea a writer wants to communicate. While writer is thinking, the idea is developed and move toward readers. During the process, writers give information too as they write to support their lives, it’s to give the reader the information requested.
For educators, we need writing as curriculum if we hope for our students to learn to write well rather than writing across the curriculum. In other words, writing can’t get your life done only across the curriculum. For students, don’t integrate writing with anything else just write. It’s good for students to be doing writing and nothing else because it is the only way of doing it that we can really hope for our students to grow as writers and focus on the writing itself.
It’s good for students to write in workshops that they would benefit from time spent writing. Teachers should make time so that student can spend time just writing and teachers can spend time just teaching writing.
My own thoughts is that writing composition is a way of communicating whether you're communicating with your friend, audience or simply just communicating with yourself. Writers write to get everything they can think of out of their head and turn it into a composition, which helps writers keep something meaningful alive. Keeping a writing habit will help writer think carefully, moreover to find something they really want to achieve in the future, and eventually are able to know who they are and what they want from their heart.
